We've all been guilty of enjoying fizzy drinks at some stage or another! Time and time again clients confess their love for fizzy drinks and this includes the “calorie free” diet sodas.
How many people do you know who have lost weight because they switched from regular to diet soda? Not many!
Here are just a few reasons why you need to ditch the regular and diet fizzy drinks if you’re serious about your weight loss progress and your health.
It will make you fat!
Diet soda is calorie-free, but it won't necessarily help you lose weight. Artificial sweeteners have more intense flavour than real sugar, so over time diet soda will dull your senses to naturally sweet foods (fruit). These artificial sweeteners can have the same effect on your body as sugar (triggering insulin) which sends your body into fat storage mode leading to weight gain and sugar cravings.
It will give you type 2 diabetes!
Drinking one diet soda a day showed a 36% increased risk of metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome includes high blood pressure, elevated glucose levels, raised cholesterol, and large waist circumference thus in turn increases your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
It has no nutritional value!
You may not be taking in any calories—but you're also not swallowing anything good for your body either. The best no-calorie beverage? WATER! Water is essential for many of our bodily processes. If it's the fizziness you crave, try sparkling water.
It will ruin your smile!
Excessive soda drinking will weaken and destroy your tooth enamel over time. Your parents knew what they were talking about!
It is bad for your bones!
All soda drinks will lower your bone density making you more at risk of developing osteoporosis.
